Why you need a policy
A DATS drug and alcohol policy for your company and business aims to:
- Prevent drug and alcohol problems by raising awareness of their effects and the impact they can have on the workforce
- Help identify a problem at an early stage to minimise risks to health and safety
- Help recognise drug and alcohol problems as medical conditions and to offer confidential help and support
- Assist managers who have dealt with drug and alcohol-related incidents in the workplace
- Set out clear guidelines for dealing with staff who you know or suspect to have a drug and / or alcohol problem
- Provide assistance and support to employees with problems, with the aim of reintegrating them back in to the workforce
- Satisfy health and safety legislation and EU directives
- Help support employers with the new Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007
